Acne around the Nose, Mouth and Chin?

February 8, 2022 Jody Leon (SKINWITCH)

Having a difficult time getting rid of the micro pimples that line the sides of your nose, mouth or chin? You’re not alone.

Every pore has a sebum gland. Once sebum mixes with dead skin cells and debris, it can create a whitehead-like pimple. These baby whiteheads are more superficial than normal, and commonly happen in the creases of your skin. As the oil collects and sits all day in those creases, the added friction of wearing a mask can easily cause pores to become clogged and irritated.

Here are some tips and treatments to help those problem pores:

  1. Regularly cleanse and exfoliate: Keeping your skin free of debris is half the battle. Thoroughly removing your makeup with a double cleanse (oil cleanser followed by a water cleanser) and making sure to wash around skin creases can make a huge difference.

  2. Benefit from using a Salicylic Acid face wash: Salicylic acid can dissolve the skin debris that clogs pores, ideal for treating whiteheads or blackheads and improving skin tone. Dermaspace Salicylic Acid Face and Body Wash is a great choice.

  3. Treat yourself to an Iderm Facial: Along with many other skin benefits, this facial is great for dislodging impurities, unclogging and tightening your pores, decreasing inflammation and reducing bacterial growth.

  4. Try out a Glycolic Peel add on: Using a professional strength blend of Glycolic, Salicylic and Lactic Acids, this peel helps rid imperfections and impurities with gentle exfoliation.

  5. Don’t forget to Moisturize: It’s important to not skip out on Moisturizer, even if your skin is oily. If your skin is too dry, it can overcompensate by producing more oil- which can make things worse. Dermaspace’s Restoring Moisture Creme, Clarifying Moisturizer and Oil Free Hydrating Fluid are great everyday moisturizers that will leave your skin feeling hydrated without clogging your pores.

Microdermabrasion or Chemical Peels: What’s the best choice for you?

February 1, 2022 Jody Leon (SKINWITCH)

Is your skin looking dull and lackluster? Wishing for a vibrant, healthy glow? Exfoliation can be a great choice for you.

When dead skin cells build up, it can cause your skin to look dull, dry and unevenly textured- and can even clog your pores. Regular exfoliation can help reveal a fresh layer of skin that retains moisture better, speeds up cell turnover, and increases collagen production over time.

Two popular choices are Chemical Peels and Microdermabrasion. There are a few different types of microdermabrasion but today we’ll discuss the kind we offer at DERMASPACE, Diamond Microdermabrasion.

Diamond Microdermabrasion is a physical exfoliation with a diamond-encrusted applicator wand. As it passes over the skin’s surface, it creates a gentle suction to remove the top layer of dead skin to minimize uneven texture, some acne scars, large pores and fine lines- while vacuuming the dead skin cells away. As it removes the outer layer of dead skin, it leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells- causing instant plump and glow. Plus, little to zero downtime!

A Chemical Peel involves applying a chemical solution formulated to peel off dead skin and stimulate collagen production. While the treatment time is short, the peeling process takes about 3-5 days. About 2 days after your treatment, skin will start flaking. The amount of flaking and peeling depends on your dead skin buildup: if you exfoliate regularly the peeling may be light, if not it may be more intense. After the peeling period is over you are left with youthful, smoother and more evenly toned skin. See our peel FAQ’s to see if you are a right candidate for a Chemical Peel: https://dermaspace.com/pca-skin

Both treatments are great for improving the appearance of dull skin, uneven tone and texture. While a Chemical Peel is capable of penetrating deeper into the skin for more dramatic results, Diamond Microdermabrasion tends to be not as invasive- with much less downtime and post care (great for more sensitive skin). Like always, speak with your esthetician for a personalized recommendation.

LIP CARE 101

January 24, 2022 Jody Leon (SKINWITCH)

During these cold winter months, it’s especially important to take extra care of your lips. Your lips deserve TLC, as the skin on the lips is thinner and more delicate than on other parts of the body. The lips are also exposed to the sun and cold, dry air, thus making it easy to crack, flake or peel. Here are some tips to keep them soft and hydrated.

  1. Drink water. Dehydration is a major culprit in chapped lips. Staying hydrated leads to vibrant, healthy skin and lips.

  2. Don’t lick, bite or pick at them. These can slow down healing and make the delicate skin prone to bleeding and more irritation.

  3. Try using a lip scrub once a week. Just like the rest of your body, your lips can experience a buildup of dry skin. Exfoliating using a scrub is a gentle yet effective way to remove dead skin cell buildup on the surface and a quick way to improve texture.

  4. Treat your lippies to a mask. Like the skin on your face, your lips deserve a hydrating and nourishing mask as well. A great example is the Patchology FlashPatch hydrating lip gels, which uses niacinamide and green tea to soothe any dryness.

  5. Protect using a lip balm. Use a lip balm that ensures hydration and healing to help retain and lock in moisture. Image Skincare Ormedic Balance lip balm is a great choice that contains avocado oil and vitamin E to replenish your lips.
