"What’s With The Hype Around Silk Pillowcases?" - by Cora Speidel

What’s with the hype around silk pillowcases?

Are silk pillowcases considered a magical cure for your skin woes?

I would not call them a magical cure but they are a better option when it comes to maintaining healthy skin on your face. Silk is a breathable, cool, smooth fabric that can help your skin while you sleep. Unlike other fabrics, silk is less likely to trap harmful dust or harbor fungi, yeast, and bacteria. Silk doesn’t create friction as you move throughout the night and helps prevent abrasion of your skin and hair. It also helps your skin retain moisture, which can aid in wrinkle prevention.

Silk or no silk, It is very important to wash AND change your pillowcase often. Experts recommend at least once a week. If you have really sensitive skin or are experiencing a break out, it may be beneficial to have several back up pillow cases so you can switch it out more frequently.

Keep in mind that every product you apply to your hair will likely end up on your pillow, which can absorb into your skin. That's why it’s important to check ingredients in your hair products, in addition to your skin products, to help prevent breakouts.

Lastly and most importantly, never forget the crucial step of cleansing your face before going to bed! This is your skin’s first line of defense before you lay down for the night.
